The Wake-Up Call

For most of my adult life, my focus has been on helping people achieve financial freedom. As a financial planner, I’ve seen firsthand how discipline, long-term thinking, and small daily decisions can lead to financial success. But about a year ago, I had a realization: What’s the point of achieving financial freedom if your health keeps you locked away from truly living?

I was overweight, out of shape, and overall not taking care of myself. I hadn’t seen a doctor in over 10 years, and I started to realize that I was neglecting a major part of my well-being. That realization hit me hard and forced me to take a step back, reevaluate my priorities, and think seriously about my own health. I realized that if I wanted to make the most of my time and be there for my family in the long run, I needed to take action.

I dove deep into researching nutrition, movement, and longevity. What I found was eye-opening. The food we eat is designed to be addictive, we don’t move enough throughout the day, and most of us don’t treat our bodies like the fine-tuned machines they are. I knew it was time for a change.

The Parallels Between Health & Wealth

As I worked to improve my health, something clicked: the same principles that drive financial success—discipline, consistency, and long-term planning—apply directly to health and longevity.

  • Just like saving and investing for retirement, your health requires small, consistent choices over time that compound into massive results.
  • The earlier you start, the greater the potential benefits—but it’s never too late to take action.
  • Cutting out junk food is just like cutting out wasteful spending—both free you up to focus on what truly matters.
  • Stress management is key—many people eat or drink through stress, but I found the gym to be a much better outlet.

The hardest part? Committing to doing the right things every day. But once you start feeling the benefits—more energy, clearer thinking, better sleep—the habit takes hold. Now, I not only feel better, but I’m setting a positive example for my daughters about how to take care of their bodies for the long run.

Why Fit & Funded?

One day, as I was thinking about how to better connect with my community, I reflected on the guiding principle that has always driven my work: add real value to my clients’ lives by looking at the whole picture—financially and beyond. I’ve always believed financial planning isn’t just about numbers—it’s about people, families, and making sure they have the best possible future. But then I asked myself:

Financial freedom should empower you to live life to the fullest, but without good health, that freedom loses its meaning.

That’s when Fit & Funded was born. This is not a workout blog or a prescriptive guide on exactly what to do. Instead, it’s about helping people realize that small changes today can pay huge health dividends in the future. You spend 40+ years working and saving with the goal of retiring on your terms. Let’s plan for a future where we’re not just living longer, but living better—staying active, independent, and thriving well into our later years.

At the end of the day, financial success isn’t just about numbers—it’s about having the health and freedom to make the most of your time with the people you love. That’s exactly what Fit & Funded is about—helping you build a life where financial independence and physical well-being go hand in hand, so you can truly enjoy the years ahead.

What’s Next?

This blog will explore topics at the intersection of health and wealth, including:

  • Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and how they fit into long-term financial and health planning
  • The true cost of poor health—how medical expenses can derail financial goals
  • Longevity planning—strategies to help ensure your money lasts as long as you do
  • Financial freedom and stress management—how financial wellness impacts overall well-being
  • Better sleep, better wealth—why rest is just as crucial as smart investing

Moving forward, my primary focus will remain on financial planning, but I recognize the value of overall well-being in achieving a truly fulfilling life. While health will primarily be a focus of this blog, I am always happy to share insights that have worked for me with those who are interested, encouraging them to do their own research and consult with their doctors. My goal is to help people see that health and wealth go hand in hand, empowering them to make informed choices for a better future.

The Vision for the Future

In 10 years, I want to be watching my daughters graduate college, knowing I’ve given them a foundation for both financial and physical wealth. I want to be healthy, active, and ready to take on the next stage of life with the same energy and passion I have today. My wife and I dream of hiking mountains together and traveling once we’re empty nesters, embracing adventure and making the most of the freedom we’ve worked so hard to achieve. And I want to help as many people as possible achieve the same for themselves.

This is just the beginning. Let’s build a future where we are both Fit & Funded.
